The Lamp in Walt's Disneyland Apartment

The main chunk of information here was dug up by Guy Hutchinson, on a certain disreputable social media platform. I wanted to have a stabler place to keep that information, and I eventually rewrote and expanded it.

The Original Apartment Lamp

Walt Disney had private apartment located above the Fire House on Main Street. There was a lamp there (I don't know by which manufacturer) which could be seen from the street through the window. Legend had it that it would be lit whenever he was in the apartment, though it's unclear if this was always the case. In the late 1980s, Lillian Disney retrieved the lamp from the apartment.

The Fenton Lamp

At some point after the original lamp was removed, it was replaced with a Fenton Sea Mist Green Paisley lamp. Sea mist green glass was first introduced by the Fenton company in 1991, and this specific lamp design made its debut in the company's 1992 catalog. It's since been featured in several pins.

The Current Lamp

In 2022, the lamp was replaced again, this time with one which is ostensibly closer to the original. I don't know the manufacturer, but I see these described online as “Gone With The Wind lamps”.

Further Thoughts

Even though it's no longer the official Disneyland lamp anymore, that sea mist green lamp that calls to me. It feels like something that could've been placed in the lobby of the original Disneyland Paris hotel, for example. Those Fenton glass lamps are extremely beautiful, and I don't really seem to find anything like them here in Belgium.
